Women, coding and confidence

Thursday the 3rd of May WIDE was present at the representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg. The day was divided into different parts all related to “Women, Coding & Confidence”. This event was affiliated to the Erasmus plus project (adult education) results, Wow Code 2 Confidence, which aims to share best practices on coding activities for women and their impact on self-confidence, employability, creativity, sense of entrepreneurship and learning experience.

A light walking lunch welcomed the attendees followed by a speech from Yuriko BACKES, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg. She highlighted the importance of the digital and the place that women have to take in this field.

Then, Marina ANDRIEU, executive director of WIDE, presented the project results of the Erasmus+ project Wow Code 2 Confidence emphasizing on 4 pillars : creativity, learn to learn, employability and entrepreneurship.

After these two speeches, a panel was organised with testimonials from women who have learned coding to make a change in their life.

  • Axelle Feider, CEO and Co-Founder, Orga50 Sàrl
  • Katja Legisa, Digital Brusselles Director, Digital Leadership Institute, one of the project’s partner
  • Sandrine Lagarde, law graduate currently in training with FitCodingjobs

They all agreed on saying that coding is important to view a career change and that it represents the future.

Following this conference, 15 women were able to attend an introduction to HTML and CSS workshop. This two hours workshop allowed them to develop their knowledge in this field and has made them want to carry on the learning.

We would like to thanks the representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg for allowing this event to happen.
