As part of the EU-funded Code4Europe project, WIDE ANDCO launched earlier this year a call for grants to support Luxembourg’s participation in EU Code Week—a grassroots initiative from the European Commission. Since its creation more than ten years ago, Code Week has been bringing together an international community of educators, students, parents, and innovators, all dedicated to developing coding and computational thinking skills to foster creativity and prepare for the future.
Here in Luxembourg, the movement continues to grow: many schools, non-profits, and local organizations regularly join and share their activities on the official platform codeweek.eu.
To help expand this impact, WIDE ANDCO—in its capacity as the national hub—opened a call for projects to support activities in line with the Code Week spirit. We were thrilled by the number and quality of proposals received from passionate actors in the local ecosystem. To ensure a fair and transparent process, a committee of experts were invited to evaluate each proposal independently against multiple criterias.
Today, we are delighted to announce the winner of this year’s grant: Lycée Bel-val
Their project is called L-Bot-V – Designing & Coding Robotics for All: Inspiring Future Innovators
This project brings together robotics, coding, and creativity to empower students at Lycée Bel-Val with essential 21st-century digital skills. In line with EU Code Week’s mission to broaden access to coding and computational thinking, the initiative leverages VEX V5 Robotics and LEGO Spike Prime/First Lego League (FLL) as both curricular and extracurricular opportunities.
Key Objectives:
- Inclusive participation: Engage students aged 13–17, with an emphasis on encouraging girls and beginners in STEM to explore robotics and coding.
- Curricular integration: Embed robotics and coding into the ‘4ème’ and ‘3ème’ curriculum, ensuring all enrolled students design and program VEX V5 robots as part of their weekly lessons.
- Extracurricular enrichment: Offer a weekly, open-access “FLL Challenge” session with LEGO Spike Prime, preparing teams for the 2025/26 First Lego League season.
- European alignment: Connect digital creativity and coding to wider themes of digital citizenship, problem-solving, and community engagement, reflecting Code4Europe’s vision.
L-Bot-V aims to spark curiosity, build coding confidence, and foster teamwork while inspiring a new generation of digital innovators. By showcasing student projects within the school and to external partners, the initiative highlights how digital technologies can be both accessible and transformative.
We can’t wait to see what these young students will achieve until the end of the year!
This is just the beginning. Building on the success of this first call, we’re already preparing the next round of grants to continue supporting Luxembourg’s involvement in EU Code Week. Stay tuned for details coming soon—and join us in growing a digitally empowered community.
