Gender4STEM Final Event

On the 16th of January 2020, WIDE organised the final conference of the Gender4STEM Erasmus+ Project.

We were delighted to welcome Sophie Viger, Managing Director of 42, an innovative and inspiring coding school in Paris. She introduced 42 and gave the audience an overview of the learning methods provided in the school, a peer-to-peer learning environment without teachers. This school offers a free and inclusive programme which accepts everyone regardless of their age, gender or education level by passing a recruitment test called, “Piscine.” It starts with an online test and continues for the most talented and committed ones with a 4-week immersion in the school in Paris.

Then she presented the strategy of 42 to inspire and attract more girls and women to take part in their programme: from arranging premises within the school, through the implementation of a gender diversity representative, to round tables and conferences with women in the spotlight.

After this presentation, Marie Gallais from the LIST (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology) presented the Gender4STEM platform which aims to get more girls into STEM with its teaching assistant.

Finally, our Director Marina Andrieu moderated a panel with several professionals from the education system.Véronique Schaber (Ministere de l’Education, service de la formation professionnelle), Sylvain Piren (Lycee Guillaume Kroll), Tess Charnaud (International School of Luxembourg) and Karine Guillaume (Lycée technique de Lallange) shared their insights and testimonials regarding the platform and the programme.
